Thomas Johnson marriage to Sarah.
« on: Sunday 20 October 19 21:45 BST (UK) »
My ancestors was Thomas Johnson and Sarah. In 1775 they had a daughter Rebecca in Brentwood, Essex. They later moved to Rochford. Thomas died in 1809 and Sarah in 1820 aged 70, so born c1750 (not forgetting ages are not always accurate). Their other children was Sarah born c1772, Susannah born c1778, Thomas born c1782, Sophia born c1786 (my ancestor) and Phoebe born c1789. In 1791 and 1792 they were subject to a settlement certificate from Brentwood to Rochford.

There are 2 possible marriages:-
Thomas Johnson to Sarah Glasscock 12 June 1769 in Barking, witnesses Wm Everest and Joseph Clarke.
Thomas Johnson to Sarah Burroughs in Dec 1770 in Dagenham. Wits Edward Jenner and Ann Wilson. In 1792 a Sarah Johnson, widow, wed Henry Spike in Dagenham. I think her age at death pointed to a c1750 year of birth.

When my ancestor Sophia Johnson wed in 1809, a witness was Joseph Clarke. other one was a regular witness.

Out of the 2 marriages, the 1769 one seems more likely but I could be clutching at straws. Cannot find any other marriages of Thos Johnson to Sarah c1760-1774 in Essex.I eliminated a Thos Johnson marriage to Sarah Hammond in 1775 in the Witham area through other records. Unless my Thos and Sarah married outside Essex.

Thanks. I shall give those baptisms a try.

The Sarah Glasscock in Barking looks promising.
