Hi!

I am trying to gather more information about my Great-Grandmother, Emma Nicholls. I know that she was born in 1875 and possibly died in 1960. Her parents were Henry and Elizabeth (Nee Perks) Nicholls and she had a son, Frank (my grandfather), born in 1900. I can trace her to the 1901 census and possibly the 1939 census, but little else. Frank was illegitimate (possible father of the name of Froggatt) and Emma was living with someone called Davis in 1939. Any information would be a great help. Thanks!

I presume you have Frank in the 1911 Census living with grandparents Joseph and Elizabeth Froggatt in Wednesfield.

Yes, I do, and although there's no father mentioned on Frank's birth certificate, I'm fairly certain that Joseph is either the father or grandfather of Frank. Elizabeth is mentioned again in 1918 as Frank's grandmother on his army discharge papers, although Elizabeth can only be a step-grandmother as she and Joseph didn't marry until 1905. But amongst all of this there is no mention of Emma, apart from a brief appearance in 1939 and absolutely nothing in 1911. Waiting for the 1921 census for some clue! Thanks

Is Elizabeth Froggatt, Elizabeth née Perks (remarried)? Her birth year is the same as in 1901.
