Harry (Henry) Field, Scarcliffe, Derbyshire
« on: Monday 28 October 19 18:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for anyone who can help in the search for Harry Field

So far I have the following

Harry Field born 4th November 1988 according to the 1939 Census

Married Mary Florence Turner in 1914 in Chesterfield from those records I discovered his name was actually Henry Field.  (Mary Florence Turner is from the Isle Of Wight)

in the 1939 Census he is in Scarcliffe as a Porter Signal Man in the Station House.

Prior to this he was also in the Isle Of Wight where his wife was born and where some of his children are born.

He died in 1961 and is buried in Scarcliffe Churchyard (his date of birth on the gravestone is 1889)

His Civil Registration Death Index has his date of birth as 1891

I'm at a loss where to go from here.  If someone has access to army records maybe they could track him from the 1st world war.

If someone could suggest a site for railway employees I could check that.

There is a 1911 Census for a Harry Field in Chesterfield Living with a family called Turner, but I couldn't trace them back to the Isle Of Wight.  Although that is a huge coincidence.

 Any help appreciated.

 David

What information does his marriage certificate give

Who was his Father on that marriage record?

Added:
Wondered what you were going to add, Rosie.

Where did that census say he was born?

There are too many Henry/Harry Field census entries in the same birthyear range to determine which is the right entry

I think you need to buy a copy of his marriage cert to determine his fathers name - suspect you have only seen the Henry on the freebmd entry

Yes sorry,

The marriage record was just the general Civil registration one, with no fathers name.

The 1911 census states normanton in leicestershire

There isn't another entry in 1901 or 1891 for a Normanton Harry/Henry - you need the marriage certificate.

Added:
Also, no births in Leicestershire or Derbyshire from 1887 to 1891.

Thanks Chempat,

I'll look into that,  this particular person is being very elusive.

There were a number of Normanton's in different counties - the Reg Districts are shown alongside but having checked freebmd - there was only one Harry Field birth - see below but he died shortly after birth

Leics - Ashby de la Zouch
Derbyshire - Shardlow
Lincs - Grantham
Rutland - Oakham
West Ridling Yorks - Wakefield
Notts - Bingham/East Retford/Loughborough

Births June qtr 1888
FIELD Harry  Wakefield 9c   40  he died Dec qtr 1888

There is the possibility he was born under a different surname.  If he was illegitimate and his mother married Mr Field he may have taken his stepfathers surname
