George STEWARD
« on: Tuesday 29 October 19 12:56 GMT (UK) »
Since you requested it, here is another of my problems!

George STEWARD was born in 1815 to William STEWARD and Elizabeth EDE, so is the step-brother of Mary CONN. He was baptised at St Andrew in Hornchurch on 12 Feb 1815.

He is relatively easy to track in census returns, appearing in 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881. He died in 1883 in Mile End, The problem is that in 1841 he has a wife named Mary. Checking the births of the child that are on the 1841 census, it would appear that her maiden name was ELSDON. Yet I can't seem to find a marriage for the couple.

Nor for that matter can I find their burial records. If it helps, his brother James and his wife who lived in Bethnal Green were buried in Manor Park Cemetery, Newham.

FreeBMD is down for me but it is possible Mary was a Widow as she is a little older than George.

Thanks for the burial info. I suspect his wife will be there too, she died in 1863.

With regard to the second marriage idea, there is a marriage between a James JACKSON and a Mary ILSDON on 28 Apr 1832 at Havering-atte-Bower. It could be her?

NB I found Mary Ann's burial in 1863 in the same place.

I have found another possible baptism.

Mary Anne ELSTON bap 11 Apr 1813 @ Shenfield
William and Isabella ELSTON.

Not sure whether this complicates matters.
