Ann Maria Madden 1881
« on: Tuesday 29 October 19 15:25 GMT (UK) »
I'm doing a bit of tidying up on my trees and just cannot find this girl on the 1881.

She was born in 1859 in Gravesend Kent (also found on 1861 & then 1871 in Essex)  and moved with the rest of her family to Leeds sometime after 1871. She marries in Leeds in 1882 ( to Joseph Green). All other census information was easy to find -  just not the 1881.

Any ideas for where she may be?

Have you looked for her actually living with the Green family in 1881

I hadn't thought of doing that, so thank you for the idea.
Sadly Ann Maria isn't there though - Joseph  ( whom she married the following year) is in Reservoir Street, Leeds with his sister's family and his widowed father.

Could this be her:
Annie M Wadden Age 17 domestic servant from Walton, Essex
with Walter and Ann Battle (b1844 & 1847)at The Elms, Chapel Town Road, Potter-Newton, Leeds.
Don't know the area to know if it's near Headingley. - edit I see it is in Headingley from the Census image.

That does look promising - well done.

The surname could easily have been misheard or copied incorrectly and the age is a few years out  as she would have been about 22. However her younger sister and brothers were born in Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex which does tally.

It is definitely the most likely entry I have seen for here - thank you
