Death in Bosbury
« on: Wednesday 30 October 19 19:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to find out about my great aunt Louisa  Soley who was born in  or near Bosbury in c1898. I remember years ago, another great aunt Mary telling me that her sister died in a tragic accident. Louisa was unable to talk but she loved music. One day  she went to reach for the radio that was on the mantle piece and her dress caught fire.   Do you think an accident like that would reach the local paper at the time?  I am trying to find out when she died and how old she would have been.  I'm sure she was buried in Bosbury church yard but  I expect its unmarked.

According to death records a Louisa V Soley's death was registered in Jan 1928 in Herefordshire.

You would think it would be in the Newspaper - but I can't see anything at the moment - maybe I'm using the wrong search term and someone else will be more successful. Actually I've only looked at 1928 -- it may have occurred late 1927 and only registered the following month.

It’s likely to be in the Hereford times, British newspaper archives say the only have issues to 1911,

Mike

I see that her father actually died before her birth (Richard Soley aged 34, Sep qtr 1897 Ledbury).

From the census it appears Louisa had what would now be described as learning difficulties.

How very sad - but she was an adult when she died - and as Mazi has discovered that the Hereford Times is not on line yet for the year of her accident - you may need to go to that local Library if you live nearby.

They may have the old local Newspapers on Fiche - most Libraries do. It would be worth an enquiry with them.

Thank you all for your replies. So she was 29 when she tragically died. So my dad would have been four when his aunt died and sadly his own mum ( Louisa sister) passe d away just 3 years later. I know my great grandfather died when my great grandmother was pregnant with Louisa.  I now live in Plymouth so no longer able to go to Bosbury or Hereford.
Thank you for your help
