Barber shop Idle, Bradford, West Yorkshire
« on: Monday 04 November 19 07:40 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the location of a barber shop in Idle which was run by my husband's uncle, Joe Turner, in the 1940/50s.  Can anyone suggest where I might start my search, thanks

Trade directories on Ancestry go up to 1946 - is that too early?

Added:
But stop earlier for Yorkshire.

Try offline?

He may have advertised in a local paper.

There is a J.A. Turner, Hairdresser, at 878 Gt. Horton Road, Bradford 71260, in the 1952 directory.
That appears to be a private house. Street view https://goo.gl/maps/2ymzLhzG1jtPxgDn9

Thanks, that is his father and brother, it's the shop in Idle that I'm interested in finding.

Would it appear in the 1939 register? Possibly not if there was no residence...just a thought.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Would someone be kind enough to explain how I access the Trade directories on Ancestry, I can't seem to find them.  Thanks
