Ester Shepherd
« on: Wednesday 06 November 19 10:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I understand that you won't Birth records for her as it is past 1837, but I was hoping I may be able to find some Parish record for her of some sort.

I only have vague information about her such as
Ester Shepherd born about 1822 Lyme Regis, Death 1896 Southampton. Spouse Phillip Griffith and Child was Ester Elizabeth Griffith 1853 (Update: It looks like she was born Waters/Walter however before 1841 somehow traveled to Channel Island from Lyme Regis before marrying Philip Griffith in 1843 in Jersey under the name "Stopford/Shepherd". I am not sure why she would have changed her name from Water/Walter so this information would be fascinating to uncover too!

The information I would like to try and find would be below and I will try and update as any information is found about her so I can keep you all updated on information for any help I receive.

Ester Shepherd

Have you bought a copy of her marriage cert to establish her fathers name?

Possibility they married in Jersey as 1861 shows a son born there about 1846 and it's where Philip was born

I have not as I am unable to find a year of marriage or even a place of marriage. I was hoping that it would be easy to find so I could purchase one or even better if I would be able to find it through church records for free!

I used to do this quite a lot however I over the years of neglect I have forgotten how to do most things haha. I am ready to go again! Thank you for your reply! :)

1861 onwards they are in Hampshire showing Ester b Lyme Regis

I notice somebody has notified some census entry corrections which could mean they are also researching the same family

Jersey. That could make a bit of sense as I believe he was born in Jersey. On my 3rd great grandmother, I have her as being born in Southampton. I wonder why I have this? Would it be possible to forward me a copy of the Census records please?

Many Thanks!

There is an extensive tree on Ancestry which shows no father for Esther but her mother was Jane Walters 1782 - 1848

Thank you for that link. I am questioning whether or not it is the correct people now. I do have a record of marriage for Ester Elizabeth Griffith whom is my 3rd Great Grandmother. Her marriage certificate states her father was Philip Griffith. They married in Southampton in 1870.
