Uniform of serviceman circa 1940
« on: Thursday 14 November 19 00:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone tell me what uniform this serviceman is wearing please. The lady on the right is my mother and I think the photo was taken c 1940 in England, possibly Wiltshire, before my brother was born in 1941. It is not my father as he ALWAYS took the photos!
Thanks

Royal Air Force. He appears to be a Sergeant as I can see the three stripes, but there may be a crown above them.
The lady on the left is wearing a large brooch which may be a regimental badge, possibly Scots. A clue there, perhaps?

Royal Air Force, the RAF eagle is the flash at the top of the sleeves.

Rank - at least a sergeant, there are marks or creases above the chevrons, not a chief technician by angle of marks but could be a flight sergeant.

Not air crew. No lapel badges so not medical or dental. No trade flashes on arm so excludes several trades.

Could have worked on aircraft or office/stores etc. Can only excludes certain trades but can't say exactly what he did.

And the photograph, I would say was taken in March-early April. As both ladies are holding bunches of primroses.

Yes I noticed the lovely  primroses too. I wonder if the lady on the left wears the Gordon Highlanders badge for a reason.. a death, a momento of someone serving?

Good evening,

Looking at the left arm you can see the centre of the chevrons. Nothing above them or you would see at least part of it. So sergeant it is.
