Hi Ian,

Strange place for the memorial, makes me wonder if it has been relocated at sometime in the past from the main body of the church.. In the vestry only a very limited number of people would have been able to see it.

Those are my thoughts too.   Monuments did get moved around - especially during Victorian restorations.  I'll just have to wait until I can go and see it for myself (some time next year....?).

On the off chance the following will assist; there is a data base for the Clergy of the Church of England at https://theclergydatabase.org.uk/

I entered Thomas HUDSON into the search engine and there are 25 same named individuals ranging in dates from the 1500's. One in particular is probably your man - Thomas HUDSON 1779 - 1819

Frian/Artifis/WestyII: Hello, trust you are all still well.
As a follow-up on Westy's post, I had sometime ago checked the following link (for the subject person), see:
https://theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/persons/CreatePersonFrames.jsp?PersonID=65229
where you can also expand for details of 'Fittleworth' appointment.
As to my earlier comment about "Elizabeth Widgett" (wife of the subject person), I wrongly stated her to be the younger sister of my "Mary Widgett" (bap. 1747). She was, I believe, an older sister (being bap. 1741 - if, in fact, this is the correct "Elizabeth", as the baptism records show her surname as "Widget").
Anyone please able to clarify/confirm?
Stay well, stay safe.Regards.....Phil Grace.

Thank you, both, for this extra information.  I'm now wondering about the ordination as Deacon by the Bishop of Norwich - could be on behalf of Chichester (or indeed any Bishop).  Now I will have to investigate his Ordination Papers at Norwich (should include a Baptism Certificate), and also (as I had previously thought) at Chichester.  This man Thomas Hudson continues to surprise me!

I should read things more carefully! Just noticed he was ordained by the Bishop of Norwich, acting on behalf of the Bishop of Chichester, in the Park Street Chapel, Grosvenor Square, London - is that what we now call the Grosvenor Chapel?
