McBain Line, Delfour, Alvie Inverness - Reached a dead end . .
« on: Monday 18 November 19 21:33 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to figure out who the parents are of my 5th Great-Grandfather, John McBain (~born 1776) . I know that he was married to Mary Smith (also born in Inverness) and had six children. I have used Scotlands People to try and find his birth record but the years and location of birth never seem to match up right to figure out. Their marriage record and their son William's birth record note Biananach.

Also, I can not find his death date either . . I find him in the 1851 Census living with his son Donald (and now name is spelled McBean) still in Delfour, Inverness but somewhere along the line his wife also disappeared she inst in the 1841 or 1851 censuses and I dont have a death record on either of them.

It would appear that they both died before statutory registration began in 1855. Very few parishes record deaths and there are none in Alvie.

Hi
Their marriage lists them both as servants of Robert Cumming Beanannach  1.6.1798.
Perhaps it's near Beananach Wood near Carrbridge.

JOHN MACBEAN   Married    MARY SMITH   11/06/1798   Duthil & Rothiemurchus

Children: (I could only find 5  - I guess Donald born about 1801)

Duthil & Rothiemurchus

ELSPATE 1800, JANET 1802, WILLIAM 1805

Alvie:

ALEXANDER 1810, ANN 1817

The naming pattern would lead me to believe that this may be John?
MCBEAN   JOHN   DOND. MCBEAN/JANET MCINTOSH    12/09/1774   Daviot and Dunlichity

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Thank you both, your information was very helpful!!!

I think I have found his parents grave stone from a picture someone else posted..  its says "Erected by John McBain in Delfoor to the memory of his parents Donald Mcbain died 11 Nov 1806 age 80 spouse Janet McBain died 21 Apr 1790 age 57 their son Donald McBain died Pitchurn 9 Sep 1841 age 55.

Based on your guess from the naming then this is probably his parents.

The MacBean vs McBean vs McBain had me very confused so this has been a tricky process.
