Can anyone help with more information?

I have recently been given a small amount of information  on my Grandfather Aaron Charles Wilson, by en ex forces friend of mine and i am hopin g someone can give me more details.

He enlisted in the Welsh Regiment, 16 Battalion late 1915 and was living at Bargoed, Glamorgan at the time. His number was 50991, Apparently the Regiment was absorbed into the 13 Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment and his number was 34985. then to the 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.

Any help much appreciated as I have been looking for a very long time.

There is an army file corresponding to those regiments and numbers but it is in the name of Charles Albert Wilson, a resident of south London. NoK was his mother Margaret, 55 Grant Road, Clapham Junction.

Many thanks for your response, did this Charles Albert Wilson enlist in the Welsh Regiment?

Can you please tell me who was allotted the number 50991.

I was really hoping that this would have been him after searching for years. Looks like it's back to the drawing board.

Many thanks again
Ken.

As I said, it was Charles Albert Wilson, 55 Grant Road, Battersea. He was quite short (5'1") and the papers are marked 'bantam'.

He was 50991 in the Welsh Regiment, then 34985 in the Yorkshire Regiment.

I believe he was allotted the number when he enlisted in the Welsh Regiment.

My Grandfather lived at Bargoed, Glam at the time of enlisting. He was born 30 December 1895 at Bathford. Somerset.

Thanks for looking
Very best

Back in 2014 you said "I have found a Charles A Wilson whose number was firstly Welsh Regiment  50991 and then  Yorkshire Regiment no 34985".

I can categorically say this is not the man you are looking for.

There is something also awry with the sequence of battalions you cite.

16 Battalion Welsh Regiment was disbanded in February 1918 with men going to 19th and 5th Battalions Welsh Regiment and to the Corps Pool.

13 Battalion Yorkshire Regiment reduced to cadre strength in May 1918 and in July 1918 absorbed 19 Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.

1/4th Yorkshire Regiment didn't absorb any other battalion.

While an individual movement between the Welsh and Yorkshire Regiments was entirely possible (see the London man Charles Albert) it would not have been as a result of regimental re-organisations.

Fold3 on Ancestry has a pension card for (mis spelled) Aron Charles Wilson of Bargoed born 1896 discharged 21 Mar 1919 service number 21489 in 3rd Welsh.  This links with a medal card for 21489 Charles Wilson , National Archives here:
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D5930122, the medal roll says he went to France with 13th Battalion Welsh Regiment and served throughout with that battalion.

My feeling is that the unsuspecting Charles A Wilson of London's number and possible service has been seized upon as belong to the Bargoed man.

Well found, Max.

He went to France on 2 December 1915 (per the 1914-15 Star medal roll).
