Names of Committee and Staff of the Blaenau Ffestiniog War Memorial Hospital
« on: Thursday 28 November 19 20:04 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Attached is a photo of the Committee and Staff of the Blaenau Ffestiniog War Memorial Hospital from about 1929. A long shot, but I wonder if anybody can help with any of the names of the people on it ? It comes from a 1979 book about Blaenau Ffestiniog but unfortunately there is no detail other than the title.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Hi, I could except the book is in the UK and I am now in the US. I have just looked on Amazon and it doesn't appear there. I'll upload the cover when I am back.
Meanwhile, thank you for your interest.
Yo ho ho !

Hi
The book referred to is probably:

Senedd Stiniog : hanes Cyngor Dinesig Ffestiniog, 1895-1974
Awdur : Jones, Ernest, 1913-
ISBN: 9780905238005
Awdur Personol: Jones, Ernest, 1913-
Gwybodaeth Gyhoeddi: Y Bala ((Bala, Gwynedd)) : Gwasg y Sir, (1975).

It's the History of the Ffestiniog urban District Council.  Published  1975

Glynm posted re. names of the councillors in a picture from this book. In this case the councillors were not named. I'll order a copy of the book to be transferred to my local library to see if there is info re names. If you were looking for info pre 1920 you could search Welsh Newspapers Online.

Hi, EmyrBorth,
TVM for your message. My photo is definitely not from that book. Mine is a paperback 'touristy' kind of thing - about 40 pages long with historical photos.
That said, I think I know the book you are referring to as I was shown a copy a while back and grabbed a photo from it (see attached). Unfortunately it was in Welsh so I could not even flick through it to grasp the main details. If you are able to access a copy and glean any more information, that would be really kind.
My reason for asking is I have several ancestors from Blaenau-Ffestiniog and relatives have told me that some were involved in the local council, chapel and other institutions. The key names are Roberts (twice), Jones and Evans which, I appreciate, is about as helpful as Smith would be in England !
Thank you once again and best wishes.

Hi
No info in book I referred to.
Papers of the hospital may have been deposited in Dolgellau branch of Gwynedd Archives.  They have copies of the local newspaper Y Rhedegydd on film, also possibly hard copies; I don't know the period covered. Welsh Newspapers Online only cover up to 1920.

Hi, Emyr,
Thank you for all your efforts here - much appreciated.
It looks like I will have to stick with newspaper research for the moment - you never know what else that will produce.
Meanwhile, I am still out of the country but I will post the details of the book we discussed before Christmas.
Happy New Year and thank you once again.

Hi
My FATHER wrote the book!
I am secretary of Blaenau History Society.
I have some of the names of those shown but by no means all of them. There are others who know a lot more about the hospital than I do, but I can put you in touch. There was a vigorous (albeit unsuccessful) attempt to save the hospital from closure a few years back.
Regards
Gareth Jones
