Copying and pasting a partial family tree

Cannot find the answer via a search here or online.

My Family tree and my Wife’s Family tree (both on Ancestry) now have an ancestor common to both of us.

From this common ancestor her tree has listings and links for about 500 people.

What I want to do is copy her tree from the common ancestor and paste them into my tree.

Anyone know of a simple way or software that can allow me to do this?

download the Ged to your Desktop Programme and edit from there ...

well that is how I would have done it..

download the gedcom from Ancestry to your desktop --- presuming you have a desktop Genealogical programme   -- maybe family tree maker or one of the others.. 
once you put you Ged into that programme you can edit and sort out who you want --   maybe by printing out a basic list and then re- entering...

Someone on here can explain better.. my head is upside down these days.. but I used to do that kind of thing often..

It’s not possible to do this online.  You need to export a GEDCOM file from Ancestry to your desktop.

Then using family history software you should be able to merge.  I use Family Historian where I can merge or split trees.  But you need to be careful when doing this as sometimes if you have people with similar data in the tree they can merge and create a new family.  So if going this route make sure you hold onto your original trees.

After you have made your edits you can the export a GEDCOM file back for loading int Ancestry.

The disadvantage of this is all those hints that have been accepted or ignored will reappear if you have the hints option on.

But !

I only want to merge from a specific person, let us call her X, in my Wife’s tree all the predecessors of that person.

I do not want to merge all the people in her tree from my Wife back in time to person X

My Wife has about two thousand people in her tree that I do not want merging in my tree, nor do I want to have to manually delete these two thousand entries.

I cannot see in the software I have a way to do this hence I am seeking what method can I use or what software allows for copying a full branch
