« on: Monday 09 December 19 20:14 GMT (UK) »
Evening all

I've been transcribing a few more ancestors' wills (from the same family), and have a few more words I don't know what to make of. Here are the first four:

SSX: Funnell, Hollengam, Gilbert, Ellis, Marchant, Harmer, Godfrey, Stoneham, Percy, Lavender
MDX/LDN/HRT: Seywell, Neville, Woods
KEN: Weller, Bishop, Friday, Maynard
ENG: Pewtress
Romnichal: Evans, Alford, Jeffs, Loveridge

...and here are the third.

I've got an idea with some of these, but some have me completely stumped (I think they may be abbreviated). A fresh pair of eyes would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in anticipation

Martin

Thanks, arthurk. Weird how the scrivener capitalised the initial letter of "doinge", but there you go.

I have tried in the past to study Secretariat Hand especially the Scottish variations.   Eventually you just get accustomed to it.

I found a Guide and Tutorial which I think was from www.sog.org  but it doesn't come up there now.   Fortunately I copied both and could send those pdf pages if anyone wants to study it - just PM me.

Alternatively there is a bodleian page which shows how some letters were written - http://rycote.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/Palaeography-Guide-alphabet

The first letter is a t, sorry, didn't mean to cut it off. I don't suppose you might know what a bease is?

Wessen

One of the witnesses is a Nicholas Weston, so I don't think it's much of a stretch for this to be the same individual as this Nicholas Wessen.

Let's hope nobody entered his web of sin...

Thanks for all your help, horselydown86. :)
