Can anyone help me?
I have now crossed the border to scotland, i am stuck with my ancester John Berrisford that is how it is spelt on the 1861 census but the rest of the ancestors to date are spelt berresford or beresford or even Barrsford. He was born in scotland and Married Mary Berrisford do not know her maiden name.It could be Carnaghan but not 100% yet. What i am looking for is his Birth records. He lived most of his life in Northumberland Newcastle on Tyne as a Coal Miner. He died before he was 40 in Newcastle presumably in the mines. We are thinking he could have been born in Berwickshire or Roxburghshire.
All of the Berresfords from John onwards are named William Stuart Berresford including his only child to Mary in 1862. This could be significant to Johns parents names.
