Darlington Local Studies Look Up Request
« on: Tuesday 10 December 19 10:50 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping someone could search for a Death Notice for a person who died in Seaham in 1983.

I have been advised that the paper would likely be the Northern Echo, of which back copies are held at Darlington Local Studies.

Hi Sophie

I would think it more likely a death notice would be in the Sunderland Echo for someone that lived at Seaham.

Cheers
Jay

If that is the case, the Sunderland Echo will most likely be at the Sunderland library in the local studies department.  I do hope someone in the Sunderland area might be able to help.

We have been working on this on another thread - it was my suggestion that this go to the look up board as I thought this might be the best chance of being seen by someone who could help.

The name we are looking for is Thomas George Matthews whose date of death was 7 August 1983.  He married a 'Lily' in the 1930s and it would be of interest to find out if she was named on death notice and also where he may have been buried or cremated.

Thank you for reading this.

Hopefully, in light of what JayG has related, Sophie might see these updates in the next 24 hours and be able to change thread title to 'Sunderland library/local studies look up request.'

Then again, hopefully a RootsChatter who is near there might see this be able to help.

Thank you.

Thanks very much indeed for doing this.

The death record says Thomas George and the announcement says George Thomas but it has to be the same person.

If it is the Thomas George we are looking for, he re-married: his marriage to Catherine Walker was in 1970.
