George LANE
« on: Tuesday 10 December 19 11:39 GMT (UK) »
George LANE had a very short life. He was born on 06 Apr 1868 to John and Mary Lane at 29 Brooklands Road. And he died at the same address not long after on 10 Feb 1869.

I was hoping to find a baptism and burial, but I'm not sure of the local church where he might have been baptised/buried or the local cemetery.

Some local knowledge would be helpful.

Presumably he is the George Lane born and died in Lambeth?  Might be the West Norwood Cemetery and Crematorium,  although I think that closed for burials in 1869. Also as he was so young he may have just been placed in a coffin with another person.

Groom - surely they would have kept a record even if he shared a coffin or grave?

Possibly, but I have heard of cases where parents couldn't afford a burial, so the baby was just put in with an adult, often an older woman. In which case it may not be recorded.

Where exactly was Brooklands Road in Lambeth, if you can pinpoint that you may be able to find the closest church with a graveyard?

According to an old post:

“ Brooklands Road is now covered by a college.  If you go to streetmap and look for Landsdowne Way, Brooklands road was opposite it across Wandsworth Road”

My own knowledge of South London geography is very poor, originating as I do from north of the river.

Brooklands Road was in Vauxhall, off Wandsworth Road as Greaves has posted.
