Marriage at Saint Michaels R/C West bromwich 1834 or 1837
« on: Thursday 12 December 19 04:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am needing a marriage year checked.

For some reason I have Daniel Bruyn (Bruin) marrying Sarah Nicholls (possibly Nickolls/Nichols)

St Michaels R/C Church West Bromwich 8 Feb 1834 (transcribed from French births and a death) and 5 Feb 1837 (provided by someone in a genealogy group) and I am hoping that someone could check and see which date is the correct one.

Kind Regards,

Wayne

FindMyPast shows Daniel Bruen (but looks like Bruin) married Sarah Nichols 5/2/1837 in presence of James Wright and Anastasia Hall at West Bromwich Catholic Chapel.

Can see nothing for 1834.

May not help in this case but i have a relative (cousin of my dad) who married a French lady. They had 2 ceremonies, both RC as far as i’m aware, one in France and one in Cardiff. They were only a few weeks apart though, not years!

Thanks Annette7

Deirdre784 I suspect the 1834 is probably so that Sarah's son Joseph before her marriage to Daniel Bruyn looked legitimate (apparently this family had kin in France and were from a long established French Family according to their daughter Ellen's obit here in Australia) as I doubt 3 different records in France that I had transcribed into English would have it wrong unless for this reason as both dates are for a marriage at the same church in England. This would be in line with her son Joseph Nicholls, his wife and two children, changing their surname to Bruyn after they arrived in Australia.

Thanks, would the records show if she was a spinster or widow at the time? As I noticed someone on My Heritage has Ellen Bruyn my great grandmother's sister as mother Sarah Hensley Burns where that marriage says Nicholls, her brother was Joseph Nicholls and another brother and sister's records in France say mother Sarah Helene Nickolls.

Kind Regards,

Wayne

Hi
Had a quick look and it doesn't give a marital status for either.
Nothing about which parish etc either.
