My punt - King's Own Scottish Borderers.  A glengarry is a type of headdress, it was worn by the KOSB, the badge is predominately circular.  A number of John Strang of KOSB are listed on Forces War Records  - I don't have a subscription.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Right enough, I think John Strang, born 14 Jun 1913, was in the Merchant Navy, 1939-1945    R147607.

It may be his father, Alexander Strang, who is in the photo.    Alex was in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in WW1.     Alexander, born abt 1887, lived at Fairfield, Thornliebank.

I think John died 9 Nov 2009, aged 97, Glasgow.

The man in the photo is not wearing medal ribbons, both the Alexander Strangs who served in the Argylls in WW1 had campaign medals.  One, son of Alexander and Jeannie Mackay Strang, died in the war.
