Confusion in Queens County
« on: Tuesday 17 December 19 15:43 GMT (UK) »
I have found a record on the Ireland Roman Catholic Baptisms for 1823 for Michael Kelly, parents William Kelly and Alicia King.  His birthplace says parish Athy, Diocese Dublin, County Laois (Queens), Kildare.  I am confused about his birthplace, does this mean he moved around as I didn't think Kildare was anything to do with Queens?
I am trying to connect him with my Great-Great Grandfather Michael Kelly whose daughter Sarah was married in Manchester, England but I have never been able to pin down where they came from in Ireland other than Queens County on my GGGrandmother's wedding cert.
Any help appreciated.

The parish of Athy straddles the border of Kildare and Laois/Queens.
Odd as it may sound the parish is in the Dioceses of Dublin.

See the map here you may need to zoom out a bit to see the counties clearly

Does his baptism give the name of the townland he lived in?

No, no mention of townland.

Pity, but sadly often the case. A named townland lets you pinpoint where the family lived almost to the house.

I'm fairly sure this is the Baptism page on the right about half way down.  Difficult to read but if anyone can see any more clues ??

It says Athy at the end, there is another with Athy second from the top left. That to me would mean they lived in Athy town, which is in Kildare. None of the other's have a place name.
