Searching for British army birth record in Kildare
« on: Thursday 02 January 20 16:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone.

I hope you can help. I'm trying to find my Gran's place of birth and to get a copy birth certificate. She was born on 11.10.1920, Co.Kildare, to a British army NCO, Harry Savage.

Would she have had an Irish birth certificate and, if so, do you know how I can get a copy? I have all her details apart from the precise town or hospital.

Her name is Mary Deru Savage but the only record I can find is Mary Dera Savage. I assume it was a misspelling.

Thank you.

A warm welcome to rootschat :).

family search has this GRO reference for the birth register entry
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FB1J-74M
You can send for a €4 research photocopy from Roscommon
https://www.welfare.ie/en/downloads/E-mail-Application-Form-in-English.pdf

If you can wait https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ may have the indexed register entries online for free in early 2021 [hundred year rule]. Or maybe you want an Irish passport as soon as possible  :D.

ADDED: I presume you have the date of birth she used for her birthday? It's a;ways possible it is a day or so out. If she was in England or Wales at the time, have you found her on the 1939 register?
