~Hi Happy New Year To All.

I have a question about a reference for a persons birth, who is now deceased.
I wonder if anybody is able to tell me.

Carla D Christie born in 1952, the births have two records, 1.jas 4b 76 and another2.jfm 4b see s52.
Why two records ? and What would "see S52" mean.
Thank you in anticipation.
I should have said St Albans, Hertfordshire

It means that something on the original registration was amended in the September qtr 1952 (S/52)

ADDED Her parents married in the March qtr, the same qtr as the first registration.  It could be something relating to that

Not sure I can get my head around that.
The first reference in the birth records say jfm 1952 ref: 4b see S52.
The second reference says jas 1952 ref: 4b 76.
The birth surely is jfm, the first record ?, why would it seem that the birth is now jas ?
The mother who is deceased married in 1938 St Albans and again in jfm 1952

Maybe the parents did not get round to having changes made to the Registration until the September quarter.

The GRO Indexes do not show when the births happened ;D
They show when the births were registered.

And the second registration, in your case (as Rosie99 said) relates to a change made to the registration.
It may be a change of name - maybe because the parents had married in the meantime.
Or it may be something else.
The later certificate will have a note added.

How often one gets carried away with the reference dates, I should know I fell into the main trap, years ago I went to the record office and the officials told me almost everyone first time looks at their own reference...…….sometimes only to look around in horror as they cannot find their name under their birthday, because as you reminded me its when it is registered that you see your name, I think you get about 3 months to register.
so, I am a lot clearer Carla was born 1951 say ond and may have been registered 1952, this does enable me to get siblings in.
