Robert Hawkins 1586
« on: Friday 03 January 20 11:14 GMT (UK) »
Looking for the marriage of Robert Hawkins 1586,
Some have him marrying an Elanor Tubbs in 1622 but I can find no record of this marriage but one same year to an Elinor Crossman at St Phillip and St Jacob's in Bristol.

This is on the I G I website.

Any help appreciated

The OPR is on Ancestry but no extra info. At this time he would be 36?

Robert Hawkins
Marriage 7 Nov 1622
St Philip and Jacob, Bristol
Spouse: Elinor Crossman

This seems to be the only record in the County 1822 +/- 10 years but of course it may not have survived or given the writing I have seen on the registers it may have been miss transcribed.

Over the following years there are some baptisms  at Bitton, St Mary, Gloucestershire, father Robert. John & Thomas also had children baptised there, do you know if Robert had any siblings?

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Men in Armour for Gloucestershire 1608

http://www.coaley.net

There a number of HAWKINS -

here are the one's quoted for

BITTON and HANHAM (South Glos., Keynham)

HAWKINS

Thomas - husbandman A20 (age around 20) - lower stature (fit to serve as a caliver) =c1588
Robert - husbandman A40 (age around 40) - tallest stature, trained (fit to be a pikeman) =c1568
John - husbandmna A20 (age around 20) - middle stature (fit to make a musketeer) =c1588

(the stature - donates - what they are fit for - Help Page explains this)

---

It appears - Robert HAWKINS is the Senior and possibly two Sons, Thomas and John

There are  Wills recorded at Gloucestershire Records Office for

HAWKINS - Bitton

Robert : 1582 - husbandman  **
John : 1587 - husbandman
John: 1613
Samuel : 1715 horsedriver
Samuel : 1715 - Bitton/Hanham
Joan : 1766
Elizabeth : 1808

Will have a look on Ancestry (hope the earlier ones aren't in Latin!)

** Trying to read this Will (early English Handwriting, think his wife if Joane, mentions Robert and daughter Joane)

Thanks, but that is his father the Robert  I was looking for was married in 1622 I have now managed to unravel this, the other tree for whatever reason has his wife down as Elinor Tubbs but on looking at their record it is actually Elinor Crossman, which still leaves the marriage date and the birth of Edmund in 1612.
