This is a man signing on in 190(not sure of the last digit) , to the militia ie the part time element 3rd Battalion of the N Staffordshire regiment for a four year term.  He would continue his civil employment and turn up for initial and annual training - it would be on the next page if you have it.  He had already served some time in another militia battalion, the 4th.

Thanks max, that's much appreciated. I'm also struggling to read the exact date. The age of the male looks to be 44. The person who I think this belongs to was born around 1859, so makes the year around 1903.

Looking now at the record itself, it was 1903 (page 2) and he served his full 4 years to Jun 1907 (page 3). There is no other detail apart from his wife's name Martha Elizabeth.
Being inthe militia was a good way of earning a little extra for a few days training a year and an annual camp which many looked upon as a paid holiday!

Found the record while at the library today, there was 4 pages in total. One had a description of him which was a great find.

Thanks
