Early records
« on: Saturday 04 January 20 12:50 GMT (UK) »
I have got back to Body Hammond, My grandfather 5 times removed I think. He was born  in about 1744 in Wendling, Norfolk, England, but cannot be sure that this is a direct relative as I haven't found any records relating to him. Where can I find his marriage registration or certificate or his birth details?

There is a baptism record for a Baddy Hammond, baptised 17 February 1744, at Wendling, parents Thomas and Mary.

This is on Find My Past and there is an image available to view.  It is not super clear and could be read as either Baddy or Boddy.

You could also try the National Archives:

https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/advanced-search

If you search for Hammond Wendling you will find some Chancery cases with Thomas Hammond and his wife Mary, and Body Hammond.

Also the Norfolk Record Office

On Find My Past there is a marriage by Licence of a Body Hammond to Ann Daws on 31 Dec 1766.

This is in Gayton Parish - both bride and groom shown as from 'Geyton'!
Witnesses John Winkfield and Thos. Bell (gave her away).

The (gave her away) note may mean her father had died.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

The (gave her away) note may mean her father had died.

Interestingly nearly all the marriages on that page and on adjoining pages have people who did not appear to be related that have 'gave her away' alongside their names.  Sometimes it is written alongside the brides signature.
