Missing in 1851
« on: Sunday 05 January 20 18:52 GMT (UK) »
I have found these two deaths on the GRO index:
MILSOM, HENRY        65
 1856  D Quarter in BATH
and
MILSOM, HENRY        64
 1859  S Quarter in BATH

But I can only find one Henry on the 1851 census
HO107/1942 fo 10 p12
Henry MILSOM   Head   Mar   59   Porter      On the Seas B S
Ann      Wife   Mar   60         Mangotsfield
William      Son   Mar   26   Cabinet Maker   Widcombe, Bath
Mary      Wife   Mar   23         Widcombe, Bath

How sure can I be that mine(from the 1851 census) is the one who died in 1856?
There is a probate on An..ry for the one who died in 1859 but I don't see one for the 1856 death.

You won't find a probate record on the Find a Will website as they start in 1858, two years after the first Henry you mentioned died.

I see that the second Henry (1859) has his nephew Charles Milsom (music seller) as executor, living in Vane Street, Bath

Yes I have found the second Henry's line (Following Osprey's post)--far more interesting than mine ::) it starts in Wiltshire and was a "Noble" family ! This Henry died a bachelor.
I, strangely, have two Milson families and had hoped to connect them.
Cousin 1 on my paternal line goes back to Henry Milsom born at sea 1792 married ANN BENNETT in Bath in 1821 they had 3 known children in Bath.
Cousin 2 on my maternal line goes back to James Milsom who married Elizabeth PURNELL  1772 in Timsbury they had 5 children all in Timsbury.
Timsbury and Bath are only about 6 miles apart.
As Henry was born at sea he could relate to either the posh family or the Timsbury lot but proving either is going to be difficult if not impossible
Anyone with any suggestions of how to take either line back?

To attempt to find a pre-1858 will, you would need to find out where the Diocesan records are held - probably Somerset Archives.

https://swheritage.org.uk/somerset-archives/
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I have the records for one back to 1792 and the other to 1772 thank you Bumble Bee. I really need to know why Henry Milson was born "At Sea" in 1792? I wonder was his father  a military man but with out knowing where they were travelling from it is proving very difficult. He married in Bath in 1821 but that does not mean his family were originally from Bath, but he must have had a reason for settling in Bath.
