Finding my Great Great Grandparents Grave at Ford Cementry Liverpool
« on: Monday 06 January 20 00:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi how would I go about finding my great great grandparents grave?
my nan and two of her sisters are still alive and remembering visiting it but all 3  have not been in 50+ years and can not remember where it is exactly.
My Great great granddad was called Stephen Dutton 1884-1946 and his wife Mary-Ann 1881-1942 also my nan's brother Alfred Dutton is in the same grave as  his grandparents as he died young 1935-1942.

I know its a long shot but any help will be appreciated .

Welcome to Roots Chat, the single best place for online ancestry research, members here have helped me many times over the years.

The Grave record you seek is reference A G 6 6

This section adjoins Sterrix Lane and is about midway between the cemetery chapel and Gorsey Lane.  It is the section right next to the houses and you can see the layout clearly on Google maps.

A map is available via a search

The record also gives 107 Rice Lane as his address at the time if his death

Find a Grave had the record of burial but no section or plot number.

I then started with a Google search, went via National Archives who had on their website that the records were held at the Liverpool Archives and they gave a reference.

On the Liverpool Archives site it stated that the burial records were available via personal search at any Liverpool Library computer, or via paying a fee or available via Ancestry.

Logged into our Ancestry account entered his name, year of death and location and it came up first result which included a page of a PDF type file where his details were located.

I should have tried Ancestry first but in the 10 years I have been researching it is the first cemetery records that I have found on Ancestry.

The address 107 Rice Lane was the address of the workhouse in Walton. The present day Walton Hospital is still on the site. Anyone who required medical treatment in the late19th or early 20th century could get it at the workhouse infirmary in whatever area they were living, so this is likely to be the reason for the workhouse address appearing on the Ford Cemetery records.
