searching for Juckes and Wilson
« on: Monday 06 January 20 22:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi there!,
My father Brian Wilson passed away in November 2017, his dob was 29th June 1933. He was born in Chorlton cum Hardy. He never spoke about his parents and to this day I know nothing about any of his family. When he died I ordered his birth certificate and found out his father was called Wilfred Wilson and his mother's maiden name was Kate Juckes. Unfortunately I have tried to find out more about them but cannot find a thing. There was an address on my father's birth certificate showing that they were living at 5 Style street Manchester. I have contacted several people on other sites looking for leads but to no avail. I am just hoping that there might people on this site with more knowledge of how to find information out about them than I have. Fingers crossed, Sharon. :-\

I have a feeling Brian was illegitimate.  Did he name his father as Wilfred Wilson on his marriage cert?

Hello Sharon, welcome to Rootschat  :D

If the Wilson family are on the 1939 they are not at Style Street.  I suspect it may have been some kind of boarding or lodging house as 16 people are listed as living there.

I think present day it appears to be an hotel.  Style Street runs off Angel Street and is quite short and the road running on is called Old Mount Street.

Free bmd shows no marriage between a Juckes and a Wilson between 1920 and 1940.  Either they never married, married later than 1940 or married abroad.

It would be very interesting to see where your father was for the 1939 register, he doesn’t obviously show up.
Who registered his birth?
Did he mention where he grow up/school he went to etc?
Only one Kate Juckes that comes up on a brief search. Born 1889 living in Staffordshire with her husband William and two children.  Married in 1914 under the name of Kitty Jones.

If the surname has been mis-spelt, then there is this birth in the same registration district as your Father, and about 2 years apart:

Births September quarter  1931
Lilian R Wilson   Jukes    Manchester N.
Births September quarter   1933
Brian   Wilson    Juckes    Manchester N.

Sister's death:
Deaths September 1931
Lilian R Wilson    0    Manchester N.

Worth getting Lilian's birth certificate?

No obvious Wilson/Jukes marriage in Manchester  (Birmingham or Marylebone for marriages and births)

Where did your Father marry, and who was his Father on the marriage certificate?

Did your Father grow up in Manchester?
