Hi, is it possible for someone to look up a birth for William Dickson born 20April 1936 in Edinburgh . Father also William Dickson labourer. Would dearly love to know the mother please.

Nessa, is William Dickson deceased? If he died in Scotland post 1975 his mother's maiden name should be included on the SP death index.

The birth year you have of 1936 is too recent to be able to view the cert online on SP. You would need to order it. Alternatively, it can be looked up in person at one of the main Scottish genealogy centres.

Thank you for your reply, yes he died in 2011 in Yorkshire. I live in Somerset and am not going to Edinburgh as it is for a friend I am trying to help, hence hoping someone could look up his birth for me.

Unfortunately, this birth is for 1936.

Scottish rules do not allow births less than 100 years ago to be viewed online. Your friend or yourself would have to send for a copy which would cost approximately £12 plus UK postage. Follow the link given to you by Craclyn.
