1881 census, Merriman
« on: Friday 10 January 20 10:10 GMT (UK) »
I have a couple on every census on FS except the 1881, and I know they didn't die until 1885.
John Merriman was born in Durham in 1804, his wife Hannah in Hull in 1808.  They married in Hull in 1846 and continued to live in the city.  By 1871 they were in Holderness Rd, in the Southcoates district of Hull.  But where were they 10 years later?  Help greatly appreciated.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Indexed as Pleniman on Ancestry.  Image does look like Pleniman and FS have it as that

RG11 Pce 4756   Folio 18  page 29

If it's the right one - let me know and I'll notify a correction to Ancestry

FindMyPast also index as Pleniman - but the image, IMHO, says Merriman  ;D

Thanks both, that certainly looks right.  John was indeed a retired draper.  By all means tell Ancestry, Carole; it's a nightmare trying to find people when transcriptions are as bad as this.

If your local library has access to either Ancestry or FindMyPast, you can check the entry for yourself.  Just look at the previous entry for confirmation that the initial letter is "M" - top of that particular page!

Sorry, I can't post a "snip" on this forum.
