Violet Moore left Ireland circa 1939 for England

  Mum born 1923 in Cavan came to England  and settled here.  Between  1939 and  1940.  As far as I know she travelled alone, so young .  According to records I have she was in Cavan  May 1939 and UK by  Nov 1940.

My question, is there any way of finding records/date  of her voyage.  I have no idea from where she departed or where she disembarked.  When I was small and we visited Ireland we always went from Stranraer to Larne. A  long journey by car  to Scotland from Sussex.

I have a feeling this is a "Mission Impossible"  but worth a try.

Sadly there are no passenger lists between UK and Ireland. Have you found her on any electoral rolls once she arrived in the UK ?

It wasn't unusual for young Irish women to travel alone to England or America, in America it was noted as an unusual trait of the Irish.

Thanks Sandra, it was a long shot.  Yes I have her well documented in the UK.  When she was in hospital before she died in 2011 and while she was still lucid , one of the nurses told me she was reminiscing about her journey to England.  Wish I had been there to hear and I shame I never thought to ask when I was younger

Thanks Sinann.  That looks an interesting book, I will get a copy.  I know some of her mothers sister  went to America.
