Gill families of Painswick?
« on: Monday 13 January 20 07:33 GMT (UK) »
On 21 July 1793 my ancestor Hannah Gill married Benjamin Musty in Painswick, Gloucestershire, England. The witnesses were Charles Gill and Elizabeth Rickett.

On the same page of the Parish register is Dinah Gill marrying William Gardner. Witnessed by Sarah Gill who had married Thomas Wager on 14 May 1788 at Painswick, Gloucestershire, England

Assuming its the same woman Elizabeth Ricketts goes onto marry Charles Gill on 26 Dec 1793 • St Mary's Church, Painswick, Gloucestershire, England

There are baptism for Charles the son of Thomas Gill

There is a baptism for Sarah the daughter of Thomas Gill.

There is a Millennium file on ancestry for Charlotte Gill naming her parents as Thomas Gill and Ann Townsell. The baptism only names Thomas Gill.

There is a baptism for Mary Giil naming Thomas as her father.

There is a baptism for Dinah Gill naming Thomas as her father

All the baptisms were in Painswick.

A Charlotte Gill married John Wager and my family have multiple DNA matches to this line

Assuming I have the right burial record for Hannah Musty her birth year was abt 1770 and burial was 4 Aug 1825 in Painswick, Gloucestershire, England

Can anyone find a baptism for Hannah which would link her to Thomas Gills family?

Only one I can find 23 Mar 1772 HANNAH Daug of JOHN Gill

There is also a HANNAH buried 31 Mar 1773, Daug of THO'S

So was another Daug named after her?

Thomas/Ann married 20 Oct 1761 as you know.

Hi everyone

Thank you for taking a look at this. Can I get copies of the Wills from the Gloucestershire Office?

Theres a Thomas Gill marrying an Elizabeth Winn in 1797 in Painswick. A Thomas Gill and an Elizabeth having a child baptised in 1796. Is this another case of an old Gill man knocking up someone younger then marrying after the fact? John Gill never married Mary Clifford but a cousin of mine said he named her in his Will that he intended to do that. I dont have any of the Wills.

Theres a family tree on ancestry that has John Gill as the father for Charles Gill Clifford and Patience Gill Clifford.

Is there a slim chance that Hannah wasn't baptised or the record didn't survive? Hannahs age at death could also be wrong.

If Hannah was the daughter of John could Thomas be Johns brother hence the close relationship between the two family lines. Is it usual for a cousin to be a witness at a marriage? I see a lot of siblings and occasionally the parents.

The Will of John Gill in 1821 on ancestry names his daughter Hannah Musty so thats the proof I need that he is her father. Will written 27 Oct 1820. He died early Nov 1820 and his Will is executed in 1821

As Capetown posted above. The other children with Mary Clifford are mentioned

The DNA provides a linkage between John and Thomas. About 22 matches who descend from Thomas daughter Charlotte

Now to look at how/if the Gills connect
