I will not mention that I gave the link to that marriage BT in Reply 6.
Absolutely not ;D

What happened to John born circa 1827 in Durham City?
Have any more baptisms to Robert and Eleanor been found, other than William's?

Thank you for the help so far.  I have tried to piece together what has been offered to date and have attached an image of a draft tree.  I am happy with my tree up to Robert and Eleanor being married.  Robert's brothers John and Cuthbert I was unaware of but the name Cuthbert could confirm that William (my 5x great grandfather and Elizabeth are the correct parents of my 4x great grandfather and that Cuthbert Richardson is my 6x great grandfather.  As my paternal line is Patterson I would be grateful for any help in tracing William's family further back and also to confirm if I have the draft tree correct.
For completeness … my paternal ancestors are:

5xGG William Patterson
4XGG Robert Patterson (1798 - ?) married Eleanor Dunn 1813
3XGG William Patterson (1814 - 1882) married Mary Lawton 1835 and then partnered with Eliza Barley
2XGG Arthur Barrington Patterson (1868-1953) married Helen Whisker 1872

Thank you,

Nic

It's a matter of opinion. Personally I think Robert the waterman whose wife was Elizabeth could have married young (but not as young as 15) There is one to Elizabeth Fielding in Newcastle in 1816.
Later baptisms give abode as Pandon.
Elizabeth may have died in 1832, age 31. Burial says abode Pandon. Robert may be around later.
If that Robert was the son of William the waterman, then your man isn't (to put it bluntly). Though even then, for all that to be right, Robert and Elizabeth would both have been extremely young when they married.

I can't accept that marriage for a male at barely 15 is at all likely. I can't remember ever seeing one. I would want overwhelming evidence. Eleanor was 74 when she died in Hull in 1853. EDIT Though I think she was rather younger than that, wasn't she? Her age may have got exaggerated a little, presuming it's the right death.
John

Thank you - after redoing my whole tree a few years ago I promised myself I would only include people that I had conclusive evidence for.  I am happy that Robert is my 4xGG but not about his birth or parents yet.

Re: post 5

If you can wait up to a couple of weeks I will likely be able to get to the Newcastle City library.  They have a 'Tynemouth Deanery' volume which gives the Tynemouth area places where individuals around that time were buried.  I can check out exactly where the 'Tynemouth' Roberts may have been buried .. Tynemouth, Wallsend or Earsdon and see what other info might be included.  Then hopefully you might be able to find out if there might be a connection to the Robert you are researching.  :)
