Capt. Henry Pryce RN

Hi All, have 2 death dates for Henry Pryce 1863 & 1866 both taken from 2 family trees, one saying sussex the other St Lucia, his wife Elizabeth died in Kent in 1885 & her will says a widow.

Can find no will in UK for Henry, looked on Family search & other sites no luck, can any one please help with this. He was the son of Josiah my post on here

Looks like there were two Capt Henry Pryce.
    ADM 196/2/67 appointed 6th Sept 1804
    ADM 196/37/592 8th March 1847
And ADM 9/8/2538 Henry Pryce appointed Commander in 1821 (matches the 1847 Captain, perhaps)

All of these can be downloaded from the National Archives - there are two letters from Cdr Henry Pryce as well, one of which might be of family interest. The service record might give date of death, as presumably he'd be on half pay until he died?

Captain Henry Pryce RN born 23 June 1786, died 14 December 1862 in Notting Hill per contemporary newspaper reports.

In London Sun dated 20th december 1862 death notice for a Captain Henry Pryce R.N. died on 14th december aged 77 at no 47 St James Square, Notting Hill,
Muckley, Routledge, Roe, Bontoft, Brumpton, Bills, Aspatria, Carlisle

He entered navy may 20th 1796, on board London 98. Promoted to Lieutenant april 15th 1805, promoted to Commander July 19th 1821, became Captain feb 4th 1858.

He entered navy may 20th 1796, on board London 98. Promoted to Lieutenant april 15th 1805, promoted to Commander July 19th 1821, became Captain feb 4th 1858.
Presumably his final promotion came after he came ashore for the last time.

From probatesearch.service.gov.uk, 1863, page 7:

PRYCE, Henry esq. effects under £400
Probate 6th January

The Will of Henry Pryce late of 47 St James's Square Notting Hill in the County of Middlesex Esquire a Captain in the Royal Navy deceased who died 14 December 1862 at 47 St James's Square aforesaid was proved at the Principal Registry by the oaths of Francis Horation Pryce of Bromley in the County of Kent Gentleman the son  and Frederick Dufaur of 13 Clement's Inn Strand in the said County of Middlesex Navy Agent the Executors.

NB in the typical style of the Probate Service, there is little or no punctuation  ;D
