Where is Big Bog in the Rathdrum Area?
« on: Friday 17 January 20 19:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I would like to know where Big Bog is in the Rathdrum area. In Rathdrum Parish records, Ellen Magee was born on the 3rd of May, 1846. But in all of her siblings registries it they live in Rathdrum.  Does anyone might know where it's located? I will be visiting the area this summer and would like to see it in person.

Thank you,
Katie

It doesn't seem to be a townland.

And I don't see anything like BigBog on the Ordnance Survey map.

Tried the newspapers and there was a Big Bog in Kildare in 1836
'...townland of Big Bog barony of Kilkea and Moone...'
I don't see it listed under Kilkea or Moone civil parishes today.
It does seem a bit far from Rathdrum for a baptisim

Added it's listed under Castledermot

Thanks everyone. I'm wondering if they were visiting friends or family when she gave birth, and then registered it in Rathdrum when they returned? I checked the parish records in Castledermot but looks like they're too faint to read. If they were visiting family, then it's possibly a new avenue to possibly pursue.  :)
