Where was he born?  Who were his parents?

How do you know the exact date he was called up?

Hi

In the 1939 register he is married to a Maud Smith (born 1896) with several children.

Pension ledger cards have a Corporal John William Smith, 9263, West Yorkshire Regiment, disabled discharged 19 Sep 1918.

PoW West Yorkshire Regiment was the local T.A regiment so might of been enlisted but not called up until later.

The medal card has him in the 2nd West Yorkshire with *M.M. usually means Military Medal.
