There are insolvency proceedings against a William Best in Nottingham in 1850, so that may have led to his imprisonment.

I also saw an earlier acquittal (1841) on a manslaughter charge against a William Best in Nottingham.

There’s a possible death for him, Dec qtr 1866 Radford aged 48.

There’s also this entry

3 Jan 1856
William Best Age 37, a dyer
sentenced at Nottingham to 4 years for receiving stolen goods

Possible bpt.

William Best bpt 26 Jan 1818 St Mary Nottingham
parents John & Hannah Best of Fisher Gate
