Richard Birkley & Dorothy Bell m. 1731 Newburn
« on: Saturday 25 January 20 14:06 GMT (UK) »
Hello all! I am hoping some sharp Rootschatters can help me! Richard Birkley married Dorothy Bell 16 Nov 1731 in Newburn. I believe that Dorothy Bell  was b 14 Jan 1707 in Newburn, being a daughter of Matthew Bell and Jane Cutter.  My problem is with Richard Birkley; on his daughter, Eiizabeth's baptism on 15 July 1734, he is listed as Richard BirTley.  Hence my confusion.  In her marriage, Elizabeth used the spelling as BirKley. Can someone please help me with Richard's baptism and parents??? Thanking you so much in advance for any and all suggestions. Sincerely, patrexjax

familysearch has the name as Birkley on Elizabeth's baptism.

When you say it is down as Birtley are you getting this from a transcription or from an image of the actual entry in the Parish Register? If it is from a transcription it could be a typo or it could have been misread.

Hello emelton and Hanes Teulu. hank you for your responses. Emelton, sadly, I do not know my source as I had a computer crash whereby I lost all of my research notes  :'(  hanes teulu, I suppose anything is possible; most of the family seems to have stayed around the Ponteland, Newburn and Newcastle areas in later generations.  patrrexjax

Just checked for Elizabeth's baptism on Durham Records on Line and they have the surname as Birkley as well.
