Hi Andrea.

I took copies of the workhouse records many moons ago at the Northampton Record Office.

They are burials records for Eliza and George on Anc*** .  Pages 87-89.

I can not see anything for Lavender I am afraid.

I am still looking.

Sandy

He is living in the Union Workhouse with "Aunt" Phoebe Bullas......

......Berty is recorded as John Bertrum Bullas (the line under Phoebe) in the workhouse, he is down as nephew.

Have a look at the original census.  Nowhere does it say 'Aunt' or 'Nephew'.

I may be totally wrong, but my interpretation of A and C is "Adult" and "Child" based on age. Unfortunately the person completing the forms is not totally consistent.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Sorry, wrong interpretation  :-[  FindMyPast have another page to this part of the 1891 census return:

I think the transcript on ANC***** have classed the A as meaning Aunt.

Is this the entry in 1891 census to which you are referring?

That is the image of the census but I was talking about the page you see before you view the image.

I am assuming that the "page before you see before you view the image" refers to a transcription of the page.

What I found on FindMyPast was the image of the page - with page 1 printed in the top right-hand corner, and there are 4 pages listing names, ages etc.  However, whilst FindMyPast has a total of 9 images in connection with the workhouse, Ancestry have only 5.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
