William BENTLEY

   Hi everyone, am in need of help in tracing William Bentley.  He would have been born abt 1870 in Bootle.  He marr Alice Maude Milne in Dec 1893, she was  b 1874 Hume, Manchester.  They had 6 children [plus a few others who didn't live very long].  Family lore says he was a timber worker, also lived for a time on Derby Rd by the docks at no fixed address.  Any help greatly appreciated as I've come to a dead end at the moment.

I am not too sure if this is your William with his father on the 1881 census. Lots of William Bentley's but not in Bootle. Hope you may be able to check this out.

Hi Frances, many thanks for the info.  Trouble is that it's such a common name.  I have actually checked out freebmd but am none the wiser.  I know at one stage he lived with a family named Burton [they had a barber shop on the cnr of Marsh Lane and Stanley Rd, Bootle so I'm told].  But when and at what age he was with them I don't know.  Sometimes I think trying to find the proverbial needle in a haystack would be simpler!!!
