Smyth/Casburn marriage Little Thurlow

A transcription has the marriage of Joseph Smyth to Sarah Casburn 5 December 1786 at Little Thurlow

The request for a license is said to be 3 December 1785, is the license date the wrong year?
It would make more sense to apply for a license on the 3rd of December and marry on the 5th of the same year.

The Suffolk Marriage Index has the marriage as 1785, two days after the date on the Licence.
