We think his farther was also called Lawrence
Mother unknown

If so you can order the certificate to find certainly the name of his mother.

so you would be looking for a Hartshorne/Roberts marriage to find his parents

I dont have a full sub to Anc but  Thomas/Mary/Lawrence are mentioned in 1943 Japanese Prisoner of War list

Looks as though his father not Lawrence BUT Thomas

That’s thrown a spanner in our research - just goes to show that what family remembers and real facts can get confused!

You have his exact date of birth which always helps.

The military bit was on Ancestry but can only see a transcription not the actual record..
