samuel mylchreest- born Rushen IOM 1872
« on: Thursday 20 February 20 10:20 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace the marriage of samuel's parents- Thomas mylchreest and Esther and would appreciate any help!

I am also trying to investigate a family rumour that possibly someone in this family branch once worked for Faberge. Now bearing in mind they seem to be a family of merchant seamen/dockyard workers and miners, this seems unlikely. However i just wonder if there is indeed any connection with the parishes of the IOM - ie Rushen and German- with any of the mylchreest families having connections with russia as I can see there are variations of this spelling - very tenuous but worth just asking!

Any guidance really appreciated.

Samuel Mylchreest son of Thomas Mylchreest and Esther Corrin was my great grandfather. His parents were married on 25 April 1861 at Rushen, IOM. They were labourers, seamen etc. No connections to wealthy Mylchreests. Thomas's father was Solomon Mylchreest a local character mentioned in "A Manx Scrapbook" by William Walter Gill (he was not a wise man Solomon was his birth name not a nickname) who had Solomon's corner named after him near where he had a cottage. Mylchreest is an old Manx surname.

This is just amazing- thank you all so much! I am researching my daughter in law's family tree and one of her relatives- violet Gladys Hopwood (born 1900)- married Alfred Mylchreest in London in 1929- I am assuming this is the same Alfred Mylchreest born in Toxteth in March Q 1901.
Thank you so so much! My daughter in law will be thrilled!

You refer to wealthy Mylchreest- would they have had any dealings with faberge? There has to be a spark somewhere which created this family rumour!!

Any ideas x

Yes Alf was my Nan's older brother he moved down south.

They may refer to Joseph Mylchreest 'Diamond King' 1837-1896 he wasn't related to our Mylchreests.
