essex records office

Getting a bit confused concerning the service they provide following a reply i received from an email request before i mde a visit. If i take out a subsription can i view AND print out copies of parish records at home?
If i visit the centre at chelmsford in person i know i can view but can you print out copies. The impression i get from them is that you can NOT do this your self but have to request a copy at a few pounds per page. This seems so last century but perhaps i misunderstand or they misunderstood me. I dont want them to do the research.
Has anyone any specific experience of this recently, can you give exact costs.

Yes you can view and save the records at home. Then you can print them whenever you wish without the need for a subscription. You do have to pay for prints at the records office though.

I always ensure I save everything I may need in the future (and back it up). Just make sure you have a system for saving your records otherwise you will rapidly have one enormous mess; I have thousands of records, MS Word documents and photos saved and indexed.

I have certainly saved images in the last few months, but it's possible that I used the screengrab addon to Firefox and saved the images that way. That's what I always do if the web site doesn't have functionality anyway and I have many hundreds of ERO images saved.

Edit: Or it could be as simple as right mouse click then Save Image As. I honestly can't remember which method I use for the ERO. wichever method I always zoom in to the image first to get the best resolution.

Subscription. I haven't been to the ERO since the records came online and have certainly never paid for an image. When it went online I went into every record to save the images I needed.

Hi

I am interested in getting some Essex records

If I understand the posts correctly with a subscription I can view and download copies of parish records, correct?

Has anyone experience of viewing and searching electoral registers that way?
Particularly interested in Weest Ham, Romford, Barking and Southend between 1911 and 1939

thanks for any help
Tony
