Hi all. Thanks to Mckha489 for showing where to find that Will and for showing me where folder "F" is lol!
Unfortunately my posting from yesterday showing the references of people I am trying to locate in these files didn't seem to get through to Rootschat so I will post these names again. Oddly following the tips already given on here I've been able to find some of the Wills I'm looking for but not others even though I would expect them to be on the same film [if the probate year was the same for example].
Also I suspect some of the references are actually to Administrations which explains why I can't see them on a film of Wills. One example is Elizabeth Greenfield of Billingshurst - ref STC III/M/31 - year 1701. Can I view these online and are they easy to locate? I assume to letter refers to a folder, and the 31 means that's the number [or placement] in the folder?
Anyhow I'd be grateful if anyone could direct me to the correct film location for either the folder or will in each of the following cases:
Richard Greenfield of Billingshurst - year 1558 - ref STC II/B/225 so far I can't locate folder B but if F was not where I expected it [it was filmed after H lol!] then maybe B is in a different place so I will keep checking.
There is another Greenfield will, that of Thomas Greenfield, dated 1576, which is also in folder B. Would that be in the same place as the will of Richard above?
Walter Greenfield - 1611 - reference STC II/S.Dean/5 - I've been through the Storrington Deanery folder on the relevant film twice and just cannot spot Walter, unless it's badly written or I'm looking in the wrong place. Any suggestions?
On the other hand I did manage to find the following will
Richard Hayler of Billinghurst - 1616 - reference STC II/S.Dean/6 - the image number on FamilySearch is 848. Given that this is number 6 and the one for Walter Greenfield is number 5 I would have thought they be close. I only found this one whilst looking for Walter.
Ok last one for now.
Walter Knight - Slinfold - 1596 - STC II/Q/31
Again I may be either looking in the wrong place or may have missed the relevant folder. So any directions for either the folder or the actual will would be fantastic.
Finally does anyone know if wills with the references PTB 1/1 are filmed and can be viewed online? I am trying to track down some wills for Holdens in the parishes of Hurstpierpoint, Horsham, Woodmancote and Henfield and have references such as the following:
James Holden - 1697 Hurstpierpoint - PTB 1/1/34/34A
I have the microfilm references for the wills at the local archives but it would be useful if I could see them at home as I don't live near Sussex lol!
Thanks for the help so far and thanks for any more ideas, help or suggestions.
Matt
