Elie cemetery gravestones
« on: Thursday 27 February 20 17:12 GMT (UK) »
Sometime ago i took information off Findmypast (i think) that stated that Robert Scot died 14/1/1824 but i can't find the grave and there at least 3 that are unreadable.

I'm also unable to find the record that gave me the date and i'm annoyed because i never guess or make up dates.

just trying to see if anyone knows of a burial index.

Fife Family History Society has a comprehensive database of deaths and burials in Fife. See if you can find a copy of that, or a link to request a lookup.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I looked up the Elie kirkyard section of the Scottish Genealogy Society Monumental Inscriptions of Fife, and there are some Scots and Scotts but no Robert Scot(t) at the right time. Also checked Find A Grave and couldn't find a Scot(t) entry for Elie but of course that site isn't comprehensive. Most of our ancestors had no headstone.

Fife Death index has:

Robert Scott, died 14/1/1824 Elie, Earlsferry. Sailor
Ref: Old Parish Records 427-3

as a sailor there might not be a grave if he died at sea?

Thanks

I thought I was going mad, I know that he worked on an excise cutter at some point so more than possible.
