Copy of marriage certificate for 1812

Obviously being before 1837 I cannot apply to the GRO for a copy of a certain marriage certificate.
In that case who/where do I apply to?

Unfortunately, as you said no marriage certificates before 1837, so you will need to look for Parish records.

Thank you groom, I took arthurk’s advice and followed the link.
My objective in finding the marriage details was to try and discover the groom’s father, but I see from the information given by Little Nell that I can only expect to find the bride’s father’s name!
Looks like I have come to a dead end on that branch!

Have you thought of looking for a Family History Centre for your area of interest as they would most likely have access to Parish Records. You could also look on Ancestry for matching Family trees.

Thanks Carol. I need to crack this one as it’s preventing me from going further back.
The problem I have is not knowing his place of birth. He died before the first census is 1840 and records for his marriage state he is John Biggs of Cripplegate. But that doesn’t mean where he was born in Cripplegate does it...just his residence! His marriage details give his date of birth as 1792 and his death cert 1783. Mind you, he died away from home and I wonder if the coroner guessed his age!
Still....I will plod on!
