Hi All
A bit stuck on one of the ancestors, William Gall b 1881 Martham, Norfolk.
Like a lot of my ancestors (and me) he was a railwayman but I cant find anything about him in the railway records on ancestry. There are a lot of William Galls (and variants) there, many of which are mine but none are him.
The info I have has been gleaned is from the 1911 Census and the 1939 Register.
1911 - Gt Western Railway Porter living at 65 Prince of Wales Road, Custom House, Canning Town, London E
1939 - Railway Goods Checker 12 Connaught Approach West Ham
There is also a William Gall Ive found in the medal cards who during WW1 was in the ROD RE which may or may not be him.
I’m hoping to track him down a bit more though. Any ideas where I could look? Do ancestry have all the GWR service records or are there some still at Kew. I was also thinking about maybe a visit to Wiltshire and Swindon history centre or STEAM the GWR Museum at Swindon – although going there I’d probably not do any research, just drool over the steam locos and of course being over that way it’d be rude not to pop into Didcot Railway centre and see some more Steam locos

I have managed to find a map from 1920 of the area in question. It shows a two GWR Goods depots and the places William lived so maybe a visit to the archives of Newnham Council.
Any Ideas
Thank Mick
