Any possibility Edward is the 1844 death in Bristol as Hodgson?  No Edward Hodgson in 1841

Where was Jane born?

There is a marriage for john hodson and elizabeth baynton 5th august 1851 st.mary redcliffe bristol.
grooms father Edward Hodson. Can't find john on the 1841 or 1851 censuses to see where he or edward could be from. i think john died in cardiff 1854.

Can you please ensure you include all available info.  The 1854 death in Cardiff  was John Jonathan Hodson and he was 26 at death giving a birth year of around 1828.

The 1851 marriage you quote was just John Hodson

Your opening post says Eliza was b Somerset but the 1841 for Gloucester shows her as born in county (ie) Gloucs.  Where is Eliza in 1851?

Edward Hodson      Male   40
Eliza Hodson      Female   30   Somerset
Jane Hodson      Female   4
I can't access the census index as i have to go to their centre to view the censuses.

I'm sure you have previously come across the differences in the 1841 entries as opposed to later censuses. From 1851 info was more comprehensive

The 1841 census does not show full birthplaces - just a Y or an N to indicate whether or not they were born in the county in which they were living at the time the 1841 was taken.  The exception is I & S for Ireland/Scotland.  It also did not show relationships between those named on the entry (eg) wife/son/dtr etc

The actual 1841 image for Edward just shows Y against Eliza's entry.  They were living in Gloucs so that indicates she was born there.  I have no idea why the FS transcription shows her as b Somerset
